Finding Your North Star

Hello BIG PLAYERS in the World!!

I am back! It’s been a long challenging journey for me. You’ll really never know what’s ahead of you in life. Every year, I end up landing a place where I could have never possibly imagined. It is scary, but you just have to trust the process and that life is unfolding as it should.

As I shared in “My Big Game in 2019,” I lost my father two years ago. I will be honest, but I wasn’t so close to my dad, so I didn’t even know how much he was loved and respected as a man with a class as well as a great leader by many people until he passed. In fact, I’ve learned a lot about my dad that I’d never known before.

Ironically, when he had a few months to live, I was promoted to a managerial position. My dad was very proud and smiled when I visited him at a hospital. He kept my new business card by his bed until he died. Recently, I have been promoted to a senior level managerial position. I wish my dad were still here so I could have seen him smile at me again being proud. If he were still here, I could have asked him for guidance and advice. I’m sure my dad is watching over me now, but since he passed, I had so many questions I wanted to ask my dad.

Since then, when facing challenges at work in the new position or when I am unsure what the right thing to do is as a leader, I ask myself, “what would my father do in this situation?”, “what would my father say to that?”, or “how would my father respond to that?” That has become my guiding point, my North Star.

How about you? What is your North Star? Who do you look up to? Who do you admire? Who do you want to make proud? If you don’t have anyone like that in your life, it can be your childhood superhero. If you have that unshakable guiding point, you’ll never be lost. You will be always guided to the right direction. And one day, you will become someone’s North Star!
